The Jackal: All Riddle Answers — Dune Awakening
The Jackal's passphrase is "I seek the footprints of the worm": Wolf = seek, Beggar = footprint, Vulture = worm. Exact answers, alley route, fixes, rewards.
Contents
The Jackal will only talk once you say "I seek the footprints of the worm." You collect the three words from the beggars in the Abandoned Alley in Arrakeen: The Wolf gives "seek", the mute Beggar gives "footprint", and The Vulture gives "worm". Elara Tuek in Harko Village starts the quest and hands you the only weapon you need.
All answers at a glance
| Who | What to pick | Word you get |
|---|---|---|
| The Wolf | Is the word "seek"? | seek |
| Beggar (mute woman) | Footprint? Is that your word? | footprint |
| The Vulture | [POLITICAL] Hello Felicity, I'm delighted to meet you. or the riddle answer Silence. | worm |
| The Jackal | I seek the footprints of the worm. | he reveals himself |
The quest belongs to Act 2, "The Assassin's Handbook". It covers two journeys: Last Target (getting the contract) and The Jackal (the alley itself). Story in one line: Elara, speaking for Count Fenring, wants a blind beggar dead because he stirs up the pyons. What he tells you before he dies sets up the rest of the act.
Where the Jackal quest starts
Last Target unlocks after you finish The Water Fat (see our Assassin's Handbook walkthrough). Travel to Harko Village and talk to Elara Tuek at Hannivar's bar. She names the target and gives you the Shigawire Garrote. Arrakeen's security scanners don't catch it, so it is the one weapon you can carry into the alley.
The Jackal walkthrough, step by step
How to get the Vulture's word
The Vulture is the only beggar with two routes:
- Polite route: ask "Who is Felicity?", then greet her with [POLITICAL] Hello Felicity, I'm delighted to meet you. After that, ask about the Jackal and his word and keep humouring him. This option needs the matching background or trait.
- Riddle route: without that option, or if you blurted out "There is nobody there!", Felicity asks a riddle: "Who is the greatest friend of the Hunted?" The answer is Silence. Both "The sandworm." and "Darkness." end the talk without the word.
At the end he asks about his wife. Either reply ("No. It's human." or "It seems a little unhealthy.") gets you worm.
Fastest way through
- Go to Hannivar's straight after The Water Fat. Last Target is just two lines of dialogue.
- Leave your guns at home. The alley is weapon-restricted, and the garrote is all you need.
- Do the Beggar first if you are nervous: she cannot be failed, and it shows you how the word system works.
- Read the Wolf's two rhymes closely. Of the three choices, only one is a real word for searching.
- Take your time: Arrakeen is a safe hub with no PvP, so nothing can jump you while you read the dialogue.
Common blockers and fixes
- The Wolf ended the conversation. A wrong guess makes him call you stupid and send you away, and when you come back he may be "too tired" to try again. If that happens, leave the alley and enter again. Better still, pick seek the first time.
- "I can't find the Jackal." He doesn't look like a target. He is the blind beggar who asks you for coins. Talk to him only after you have all three words.
- The phrase option is missing. You are short a word. Each beggar's word counts on its own, so go back to whichever one you skipped.
- The Vulture won't give the word. You picked "The sandworm." or "Darkness." on the riddle. Talk to him again, and next time answer Silence.
- The Jackal is dead but the journey hasn't completed. That is expected: the last step, "Exit the Jackal's alley", only triggers when you leave the instance, and the rewards arrive at the same moment. Don't log off inside the alley.
- No garrote. You skipped Elara's second line: the garrote comes with the "Report to Elara Tuek" step. Go back to Hannivar's.
Rewards
- Last Target: 100 XP and the Shigawire Garrote (quest item).
- The Jackal: 100 XP, The Jackal's Blindfold (a light combat headpiece plus a matching appearance variant) and the Rug of the Desert Flyers decoration.
Both rewards land only when you walk out of the alley, so finish the last step before you log off.
What comes next
The Jackal's last words point you away from Elara. Before you can confront her, Ari gets in touch: A rendezvous with Ari asks you to meet her on the second floor of the Salusan Bull in Arrakeen. That leads straight into the lab under Old Carthag. Our Searching for Answers walkthrough covers both.
What is the Jackal's passphrase in Dune Awakening?
"I seek the footprints of the worm." It is built from three words: "seek" from The Wolf, "footprint" from the Beggar and "worm" from The Vulture.
What is the answer to the Wolf's riddle?
Choose "Is the word "seek"?". "Mystique" and "peek" are wrong and end the conversation.
What is Felicity's riddle answer?
"Who is the greatest friend of the Hunted?" The answer is "Silence."
Should I kill the Jackal or spare him?
It makes no difference. "I don't want to kill you." and "You need to die." both complete the step, and the Jackal dies either way.
Where is the Jackal's alley?
In the southern Warrens of Arrakeen. Take the south-west stairs and follow the alley to a crack in the wall marked "Enter the Abandoned Alley".
