Flour Sand is gathered from pale patches of fine sand with a Static Compactor, not a cutteray. Hagga Basin has only 30 patches, scattered over open dunes in the middle and south; the easiest one to find lies next to The Wreck of the Actaeon. The Deep Desert has about 500 every week, so serious farming happens there.

Where to find Flour Sand in Hagga Basin

Hagga Basin has just 30 Flour Sand patches. They don't sit at outposts or shipwrecks: almost all are out on open sand, 100 to 800 metres from the nearest named place. That is why most players think Hagga has none.

Next to The Wreck of the Actaeon

The closest patch to any landmark, roughly 130 metres from the wreck in the south-east of the basin. Use the wreck as your beacon.

Where to find Flour Sand in the Deep Desert

The Deep Desert has around 500 Flour Sand patches each week, more than fifteen times as many as Hagga, and they move after every Coriolis storm. The finder below shows this week's best sectors:

Before you fly in, read the Deep Desert guide and check the current storm on the overview page.

What you need to gather Flour Sand

  • Static Compactor: 10 Iron Ingots and 7 EMF Generators at a Fabricator or Survival Fabricator. Aim it at the patch, wait for it to compact the sand, then pick up the clumps.
  • Later upgrades: the Industrial Static Compactor (18 Aluminum Ingots, 10 EMF Generators, 9 Cobalt Paste, 170 ml of water) and the tier-6 Omni Static Compactor.
  • A sandbike or buggy with storage, parked on rock nearby.

Iron for the compactor comes from Hagga's ironworks; see where to find Iron Ore.

What Flour Sand is used for

Flour Sand has one job: Silicone Block.

RefinerySand per blockTimeWater
Small Chemical Refinery515 s50 ml
Medium Chemical Refinery310 s50 ml

Silicone Blocks are everywhere in the mid and late game. The big consumers:

  • Large Spice Refinery: 900 blocks;
  • Large Ore Refinery: 450;
  • Large Windtrap: 195; Medium Spice Refinery: 190;
  • Advanced fabricators (survival, vehicle, weapons, garment): 150 each; Spice-Powered Generator: 150;
  • Carrier Ornithopter Cargo Container: 115;
  • the regular Windtrap (30), stillsuits, dew reapers and Hajra literjons.

Count your real need in the crafting calculator before you start. A Large Ore Refinery alone is 450 blocks, which is 2,250 sand at a small refinery or 1,350 at a medium one.

Farming tips

  • Build the Medium Chemical Refinery as soon as you can: 3 sand per block instead of 5 saves 40% of your farming.
  • In Hagga, chain several patches in one ride along the central belt instead of camping one.
  • Farm in pairs if you can: one player compacts, the other watches for worms and keeps the vehicle ready on rock.
  • If you hate sand runs, check the market for Silicone Blocks or post a buy order.
