Salvaged Metal comes from metal wreckage scattered all over Hagga Basin. The densest fields are at the Southwest Ironworks (198 wreck nodes nearby), the Northwest Ironworks (172), the Table of the Gods and the Wreck of the Pallas. Cut the big pieces with any cutteray, pick up small scraps by hand, and loot containers in caves and outposts.

You will never run out: wreckage covers the whole basin, and the Deep Desert has even more. The question is only how fast you can collect it. On day one, pick up a few small scraps by hand and craft the Improvised Cutteray (2 metal) right away. Cutting big pieces is many times faster.

Salvaged Metal from containers

Salvaged Metal also drops from loot containers in 87 places in Hagga Basin. These have it at a 100% chance:

Wreckage gives far more per minute, though. Treat containers as a bonus while you clear a cave.

Where to find Salvaged Metal in the Deep Desert

Salvage is everywhere there too, mostly around shipwrecks. The layout changes weekly:

What you need

  • Any cutteray for the large wreckage pieces. The Improvised Cutteray costs just 2 Salvaged Metal at a Fabricator.
  • Nothing for small scraps: pick them up by hand.
  • A vehicle with storage for big runs. A sandbike is enough early on.

What Salvaged Metal is used for

Salvaged Metal is the first material you need, and it stays useful. Spend your first haul on the Fabricator (75), then the Small Ore Refinery (90) so you can start smelting ore:
