It is not a number pad: you set it on five symbol dials hidden behind the painting on the right wall of Phaedra Vye's apartment in Arrakeen, between two chairs near the bar counter. The valet's note says "picture me… before the downfall of a once great city", and the Old Carthag schematics you found in Osten's workshop are dated 10194.

The Call: enter any Hagga Basin tradepost or settlement. Noctua, Zantara's bat, shows up, and the journey completes.

Steps

Arrakeen, Imperial Consulate: talk to Sub-Prefect Tors, the Chief Investigator.
Salusan Bull, upper floor: Ugo Firenze at the top of the stairs controls access to the private room. Get him to let you in ("Gain access to the private room").
Scan the room for clues: examine the body (head, mouth, eyes, hands), the voice recorder and the table with the cups. The left cup smells of Vanta Draught.
Interrogate witnesses on the upper floor, including Osten's assistant Hester Klimt. She won't accept "murder" without proof.
Get a poison snooper: buy one from bartender Alastair Christian Chim in the Salusan Bull or from Tidjii O'Garee near the Arrakeen entrance.
Back in the private room, use the snooper on the book ("Histories of Imperial Dissent, Vol. 7"). It glows red along the page edges: contact poison. You receive "Poison report from Osten's book". The cups, carafe and food all test green.
Convince Hester: choose "He was poisoned.", then "A poison snooper confirmed it."
Question the witnesses again: Hester, Ugo Firenze, Ambrose Lucifera and Alastair Chim. Then discuss your findings with Tors.

TOUCH OF EVIL: Osten's workshop

Hester tells you Osten had a secret workshop inside a Sandflies base in the Eastern Shield Wall (northern part). Pinnacle Station is a handy tradepost to start from, or approach from the north of Hagga Basin.

Steps

Enter Phaedra's apartment: an instanced upstairs apartment in north-east Arrakeen.
Search for clues: the Black market trade receipt is on the table near the bar counter. The Note to the valet is on the floor by the open chest; scanning the gold picture frame also reveals it. The note sends boxes to Sector B-5 in the Deep Desert.
Discuss your findings with Tors.
Deep Desert, Sector B-5: find a cave entrance with lit torches by a canyon, north-west of a large mountain. The quest marker points to it.
Search the valet's body for the Cryptic note. It is easy to miss: check just outside the main cave entrance first, then inside by the fire pit in the north-west part.
Go deeper into the cave and search it. The last clue, A torn page from a manifest, sits on a small box with blue lights in a red-lit alcove. Then return to Tors.
Back in Phaedra's apartment, decipher the valet's note: interact with the painting on the right wall, between two chairs near the bar counter. Behind it are five dials, each with an Up and a Down button and ten symbols for the digits 0–9. Turn them to 1, 0, 1, 9, 4 and the secret room opens.
Search the secret room: Phaedra is dead inside. Use the snooper on her mask (a poison needle) and examine the knife in her neck. Collect the second manifest piece and the Banquet Guest List.
Talk to Tidjii O'Garee at the Arrakeen entrance and ask what she knows.

Open the Deep Desert map

The Deep Desert cave has no code and no locked door. You only collect the Cryptic note and the torn manifest page there, and the note is half of the painting clue. The cave is a fixed story location, but the desert around it changes every week and is a PvP zone in places. Fly in with a full ornithopter and read the Deep Desert guide first.

THE JANUSIAN FAITHFUL: who is who at the banquet

The banquet hall is on the upper floor of Arrakeen, opposite Phaedra's apartment. Eleven nobles lie dead in poisoned masks. Dhood Shazz asks you to identify three of them.

Steps

Talk to the dying noble. Ask about her mask: the poison was in the masks, not the wine. She says Graf Ansel Virro wore blue ("a coward's color") and spilled a full goblet.
Report to Dhood Shazz. Find the wine stain next to a blue mask, then answer: "Dark blue mask on the right side of the room, between an empty chair and the purple mask."
Talk to the butler. His clues and the flowers point to the guest who sat as far from the flowers as possible. Answer: "Purple mask on the right side of the table. Next to an empty chair."
Interrogate Ambrose Lucifera, then ask the butler about Ambrose's note. He handed it to someone in a terracotta mask.
Find the missing finger: the terracotta woman on the floor near the entrance is missing her right index finger. It matches the four-fingered handprint on the back wall. Answer: "The terracotta mask, lying on the floor near the entrance."
Talk to Tors, then follow him when he storms off.
Return to Elara Tuek in Harko Village to collect your rewards.

Fastest way through

Buy the poison snooper as soon as Hester refuses to believe you. Re-questioning witnesses doesn't skip this step.
Plan the Deep Desert trip: the cave is the only part outside the cities. Go with fuel and repair kits so you don't have to come back.
Leave valuables in your base before the Deep Desert trip. If you die in a PvP area, other players can loot what you carry.
Grab every scroll at the workshop. The schematics' date is the code, and without the item there is no hint to work from.
At the banquet, scan every body and talk to every noble before answering Dhood. Some answer options only appear after that.

Common blockers and fixes

Ugo Firenze won't let you into the private room. If the option to get in is missing, talk to the drunk Atreides officer in the middle of the bar first, then try Ugo again.
Hester won't believe you. You need the "Poison report from Osten's book" item. Snoop the book, not the cups.
"Search the valet's body" won't complete. The body is easy to walk past. Search just outside the main entrance and inside near the fire pit in the north-west part.
The dials won't open the room. Set the five dials to 1, 0, 1, 9, 4, in that order. The schematics show the year as 10194. The dials reset each time you re-enter the apartment, so set them again after a reload.
Dhood Shazz rejects your answer. A wrong answer earns a rebuke, then "Let me review the evidence." lets you try again. Nothing is lost.
