How to Get Water in Dune Awakening

Water in Dune Awakening comes from dew, blood purifiers, deathstills and windtraps. Exact build costs, filters, cisterns and how much water each recipe eats.

In Dune Awakening you get water four ways: harvest dew from Primrose fields at dawn with a Dew Reaper, purify blood from corpses in a Blood Purifier, render corpses in a Fremen Deathstill, and run Windtraps with filters at your base. Store it in literjons and cisterns, and wear a stillsuit to lose less.

How water works in Dune Awakening

Water does two jobs. It keeps you alive, because your hydration bar drains all the time and much faster once the sun-exposure meter fills in direct light. It's also a crafting resource: most refining and mid-tier crafting recipes have a water cost on top of their materials. That second use is why "water farm" is a real goal: by the aluminum tier, water is the bottleneck.

A stillsuit slows the loss. The starter Scavenger Stillsuit body costs 3 Micro-sandwich Fabric and 8 Plant Fiber, and every metal tier has a better set (Kirab with iron, Slaver with steel, Native with aluminum, Mercenary with duraluminum, CHOAM with plastanium).

How to collect dew

Dew forms on Primrose fields, and the Dew Reaper harvests it at dawn straight into a literjon or water tank. It's the cheapest water there is, and Hagga Basin is full of primrose. Be at the field before sunrise and work fast, because the dew is gone once the day heats up. The densest area is around the Northwest Ironworks:

The Planetologist school has a Dew Gathering skill that raises the water you get from each harvest.

How to turn blood into water

Blood is the early-game workhorse:

  1. Craft an Improvised Blood Extractor (20 Salvaged Metal) and a Small Blood Sack (25 Plant Fiber, 5 Salvaged Metal) at the Fabricator.
  2. Drain corpses into the sack. You can drink blood directly, but it lowers your max health.
  3. Empty the sacks into a Blood Purifier at base. It costs 70 Salvaged Metal and draws 10 power.

Upgrades: the Blood Extractor Mk2 costs 10 Iron Ingots and 7 EMF Generators; the Medium Blood Sack costs 6 Iron Ingots, 12 Micro-sandwich Fabric and 6 Plant Fiber. The Improved Blood Purifier (50 Iron Ingots, 16 Silicone Blocks, 20 Complex Machinery, 35 power) processes faster.

How the Fremen Deathstill works

The Deathstill renders a whole corpse into water. You unlock it through the Trials of Aql questline (the eighth trial). Pick up a body, put it in the still, and it pays out after about an hour.

Fremen Deathstill60 Steel Ingot, 28 Silicone Block, 32 Complex Machinery200
Advanced Fremen Deathstill180 Duraluminum Ingot, 130 Silicone Block, 50 Complex Machinery350

If you already farm NPC camps for loot, a deathstill turns the bodies into a lot of water with no extra trips.

How to build a windtrap water farm

The Windtrap is the only source that works while you're away. It must stand in the open within your base claim; it won't collect water indoors.

Large Windtrap180 Duraluminum Ingot, 195 Silicone Block, 40 Calibrated Servok, 4 Spice Melange135

A basic Windtrap makes roughly 45 ml per minute, about 2.7 litres an hour. Every windtrap needs a filter to keep running and clear of sand:

Advanced Particulate FilterLarge Windtrap6 Plastanium Ingot, 20 Plant Fiber, 12 Silicone Block, 50 Spice Residue, 1 Spice MelangeAdvanced Survival Fabricator

Power math for a farm. A Fuel-Powered Generator produces 75 power, exactly one Windtrap. A Wind Turbine Omnidirectional (65 Cobalt Paste, 45 Steel Ingots, 20 Calibrated Servoks) makes 150, enough for two, and the Wind Turbine Directional makes 350. A water farm is mostly a power problem, so plan turbines before you stack windtraps. Calibrated Servoks gate both: where to find Calibrated Servok.

Where to store water

Medium Water Cistern25,000 ml60 Steel Ingot, 30 Silicone Block
Large Water Cistern100,000 ml115 Duraluminum Ingot, 120 Silicone Block, 20 Industrial Pump

To carry water, use literjons. The Decaliterjon costs 21 Aluminum Ingots, 6 Micro-sandwich Fabric and 4 Insulated Fabric at the Survival Fabricator, and the Literjon Mk6 comes with plastanium. Both are bulky, which is the price of the capacity.

Testing stations and NPC camps have water you can top up from. In Hagga Basin most Imperial Testing Stations have water taps inside, and many camps and outposts have small and medium water cisterns you can use once the guards are down. Plan long trips through them. Two clusters:

The Deep Desert has a few taps too, but they move every week, so take your own water there. More on those stations in Imperial Testing Stations.

Vehicle parts add more on top: 135 ml for most Mk3 parts, 260 ml for Mk4, 530 ml for Mk5 and 830 ml for Mk6. A Scout Ornithopter Mk4 needs about 39 litres once you count the 217 aluminum ingots and the cobalt paste behind it; see how to get an ornithopter. Copper ingots cost no water at all.

Plan whole builds, water included, in the crafting calculator, and see the metal chain in our refining guide.

Water farming tips

  • Early: dew at dawn plus blood from every camp you clear. Carry two blood sacks.
  • Steel tier: a deathstill beats a windtrap if you kill NPCs anyway; a windtrap wins when you're offline.
  • Aluminum tier: add windtraps with turbines and a Medium Water Cistern before you start an ornithopter.
  • Spice: refining spice is the biggest water sink in the game. Fill a Large Water Cistern before a big spice run (how to farm spice).
  • Need water fast? Some vendors sell a Cup of Water that refills 100 ml of hydration for 100 Solari. It's an emergency fix, not a farm.

What is the best way to farm water in Dune Awakening?

Early, collect dew and purify blood. Mid game, a Fremen Deathstill turns corpses into water. For passive income, build Windtraps with filters and enough power, and store the output in Medium or Large Water Cisterns.

How much does a windtrap cost?

A Windtrap costs 90 Steel Ingots, 30 Silicone Blocks and 20 Calibrated Servoks and draws 75 power. A Large Windtrap costs 180 Duraluminum Ingots, 195 Silicone Blocks, 40 Calibrated Servoks and 4 Spice Melange and draws 135 power.

Do windtraps need filters?

Yes. The Makeshift and Standard filters fit the regular Windtrap; the Particulate and Advanced Particulate filters fit the Large Windtrap. All are crafted at a Survival Fabricator, the last one at the advanced version.

Where do I collect dew in Dune Awakening?

On Primrose fields at dawn, with a Dew Reaper. Primrose grows all over Hagga Basin; our map's "where is best" finder shows the densest areas.

Why do I need so much water for crafting?

Refining has a water cost: 150 ml per Aluminum Ingot, 400 ml per Duraluminum Ingot and 1,250 ml per Plastanium Ingot, and spice refining takes thousands of millilitres per batch.
