EMF Generators drop in caves and caches across Hagga Basin: 207 containers, all at 92–100 %. The best cluster is Callie's Breakthrough (9 containers) with nearby The Red Maw (5). Dayside has 7 and Mirzabah's Head has 6. In the Deep Desert, Forgotten Caves drop them at 100 %. You need them for nearly every gathering tool.

This is a tier-1 component, so you can farm it from your first days. Tool upgrades never stop asking for more, though. A Cutteray Mk6 takes 23 and Kynes's Cutteray takes 26.

Where to find EMF Generators in the Deep Desert

This week 67 containers drop them. The 12 Forgotten Caves hold 33 of them at up to 100 %. Named caves such as The Endless Wait, The Watchway and Hanuman's Grotto add 1–2 each at 99.6 %. Almost all of them sit in caves. The map changes every week:

The separate Blushing Cavern location also has 5 containers at 100 %.

What EMF Generators are used for

The generator goes into 49 recipes, mostly at the Survival Fabricator:

  • Cutterays: from Mk1 (4) up to Mk6 (23), plus unique ones such as Kynes's Cutteray (26).
  • Water tools: Blood Extractors (7 at Mk2), Filter Extractors, Dew Reapers and Dew Scythes (7–21).
  • Static Compactors of every tier (7–24).
  • Scanners: the Handheld Resource Scanner (6), the Long Range Scanner (15) and the Survey Probe Launcher (1).
  • Two unique thumpers: Wormsong Echo (7) and Song of Shai-Hulud (11).

Tally a full tool upgrade in the crafting calculator. Cutterays are your mining tools, so upgrade them first. Then see where to use them in the iron ore guide.

Farming tips

  • Farm the caves you clear anyway. The top ten alone give 53 near-guaranteed drops.
  • Stockpile ahead of each cutteray tier. The Mk3 needs 10 and the Mk5 needs 14, so keep a stack in base storage and you won't stall once the other materials are ready.
  • Khala Cavern also drops Insulated Fabric, and the Deep Desert caves drop Holtzman Actuators and Plasteel Plate.
  • Caves sit in rock, so sandworms cannot reach you inside. Park your vehicle on rock at the entrance, not on open sand.
  • Need generators fast? Look on the market too.
