Zayn de Witte Mentat Questline in Dune Awakening

The Mentat school starts with Samin Moro at Riftwatch, the Harkonnen fortress in Hagga Basin. Bring 100 Plant Fiber and 40 Iron Ore for the contract First Blood. After that, Zayn de Witte waits at the back of the Salusan Bull's ground floor in Arrakeen with six advanced contracts. The Journey tab calls the line Discipline of the Mentat.

The second name in rows 3 and 5 is the Harkonnen version. Both versions count for the journey.

Where the questline starts

The board contract Secrets of the Mentat only asks you to talk to Samin Moro at Riftwatch, a short ride from The Anvil tradepost. If you started as a Mentat, First Blood may already be done: check the Journey tab, and if it is, go straight to Zayn.

Advanced training with Zayn de Witte

Zayn de Witte is a Mentat whose mind has been tampered with, and he wants a new patron. He has no marker of his own. Look for him at the back of the Salusan Bull's ground floor.

Calculated Calamity

An Olive Branch (or Underhanded Hand-Over)

Zayn wants to impress Thufir Hawat. Take the film to Thufir at the Residency Approach in Arrakeen, then report to Zayn. If you are pledged to House Harkonnen, you get Underhanded Hand-Over instead and talk to Piter de Vries in Harko Village. As a Harkonnen agent you can tell Piter everything and then lie to Zayn about it.

Cataloging Defectors

Bring a Blood Extractor and empty blood sacks. Zayn's device records data from deserter blood.

While you are there, the rare chest behind the locked door needs the Red ID Band. The band lies right across from that door.

Bloody Results (or A Bloody Development)

Zayn hands you a minimic film with his analysis. Take it to Thufir Hawat again, or to Piter de Vries on the Harkonnen branch, and return to Zayn.

The Price of Rejection

Hunter-Seeker is a capstone ability. Make sure you have unlocked and slotted it, together with Solido Decoy and Poison Mine, before you fly out.

Untwisted Questions

The fastest way through

• Pack once for the whole line: a Blood Extractor with blood sacks, a Radiation Suit, a light and the First Blood materials.
• Set up the skill tree early. The Price of Rejection needs around 10 points in the assassination branch. Respec has a 48-hour cooldown, so plan it in the skill planner.
• Use an ornithopter or the taxi. Arrakeen, Riftwatch, The Anvil, Pinnacle Station and the Sheol are far apart. An ornithopter pays for itself here.
• Leave vehicles outside PvP zones at the Passage of Artemis and in the Sheol.
• Repair the Radiation Suit before the Sheol. Radiation there drains health fast without full protection, so don't linger once you have the datapad.

Common blockers

• The Hunter-Seeker kill does not count. Some players only got credit after a headshot. Aim for the informant's head.
• I'm Harkonnen and the Thufir step is missing. That is by design. Your House version sends you to Piter de Vries in Harko Village. Check your faction in the Landsraad and houses guide.
• Blood samples do not fill up. You need empty blood sacks for 5,000 ml plus 1,000 ml. Carry spare sacks.
• Can't find Zayn. He has no marker. Go to the back of the Salusan Bull's ground floor.

Rewards and what comes next

Seven contracts give 4,900 XP, plus 700 XP for the board contract. You get the full Mentat tree, Levels 2 and 3, and three capstone unlocks. The line also unlocks the Mentat armour schematic. There is no follow-up journey.
